Liverpool superstar set to miss Champions League final due to ankle injury, and will also miss the World Cup

– First, it was Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and now Joe Gomez has been injured and will not be available for Liverpool against Real Madrid later this month

– The 20-year-old suffered an ankle injury in the Reds Premier League fixture against Stoke City at Anfield

– They defeated AS Roma 7-6 on aggregate to reach their first Champions League final after 11 years

England international Joe Gomez has been ruled out of Liverpool’s Champions League final against Real Madrid later this month in Kiev.

The 20-year-old suffered a knock in the Reds goalless affair against Stoke City in their Premier League encounter late last month.

Having undergone surgery after the injury he has missed the club’s last three games including their slim defeat to Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Meanwhile, he has been ruled out of the remainder of this league season following the ankle injury he suffered in April.

Gomez has been regular for Jurgen Klopp’s men all season long appearing six times in their Champions League campaign this term.

However, his dream of playing in his first UEFA top tier competition has been hampered by the disappointing injury, which could also extend to this year’s World Cup in Russia.

He made his senior debut for the English national in their 0-0 draw against Germany last November and also featured against Brazil four days later and again in the friendly with Holland earlier this year.

The Reds reached their first final in the last 11 years after beating Roma in a 13-goal thriller in the semifinal of the competition, while Real oversaw competition from Bayern Munich in the second last-four clash.

However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp remains confident his side will finish second on the EPL table despite trailing Manchester United by three points with just two games to the end of this season.

They could have leveled up on points with the Red Devils had they defeated Chelsea in last Sunday’s English topflight encounter at the Bridge.

The Anfield side have managed to pick two points in their last three EPL matches as they race for Champions League next season continues.

Klopp’s men know their next home game against Brighton is a must win as they are point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, and four points above 5th place Chelsea on the table.

Failure to finish well on the table will mean they must beat Real Madrid in this month’s final in Kiev to play in the competition next term.

It’s my life, it’s our life, that we always make it a little bit more exciting,” Klopp said.

“We had these situations a few times and it will be, for sure, exciting because Brighton is in a good moment, they played fantastic against (Manchester) United.

“But it’s all OK, as long as we have it in our own hands, life is good. We still have to take it then but we will try everything.

Gomes has started 21 out of his 23 appearances for Liverpool this season, but no goal was recorded in his name.

He joined the club from Charlton Athletic for an unknown fee in 2015 after spending just one season with the championship side.

The defender has also featured for the England youth team across all ages before been called up to represent the Three Lions late last year.
