Nigerian star ready to face Atletico Madrid in Arsenal’s Europa League semi final clash amidst injury concerns

– The Gunners were forced to 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium last week by Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Europa League semi final

– Arsene Wenger’s men will have to score an unreplied goal to stand a chance of reaching Lyon for the final

– However, Super Eagles attacker Alex Iwobi says he’s ready for the meeting as they all look forward to winning silverware this season

Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has has declared himself fit for Arsenal’s must win Europa League semi final clash in Spain on Thursday, May 3.

The 21-year-old attacker suffered a minor injury in the Gunners 2-1 defeat to Manchester united on Sunday at Old Trafford, after which his manager came out to say he was struggling with a hamstring injury.

And the situation has raised concerns with Arsene Wenger, who wants to win a title for the north London side before finally stepping down at the end of this season.

However, Iwobi will be hoping to participate in the second leg of their semifinal clash after failing to take advantage of Atletico reduced team at the Emirates barely a week ago.

“I believe it is very good. I am still being assessed but to me it is good and I will be okay,” he told Sky Sports.

“We will have to wait and see but I believe I will be okay and fit (for Atletico).”

Other players on the Gunners injury list are David Ospina (rib) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (knee) and might miss the action in Spain later this week owing to their concerns.

Should Ospina miss the game, Wenger will have to call up on his experienced but old goalkeeper Petr Cech for this one having lost his place as the Gunners’ No.1.

Arsenal are currently ranked sixth on the Premier League table and a chance for them to qualify for any European competition next season is slim unless they win the Europa League title and qualify to play in the UCL.

With barely three seasons in the team, Iwobi has scored eight goals in 94 appearances after he made his debut in a 3-0 League Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in October 2015.

Meanwhile, he is one of the key players to lead the Super Eagles attack at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia this summer.
