Police in Imo apprehend pastor for alleged kidnap of 17-month-old baby

A pastor and his accomplice were at the weekend arrested by the police operative of the Imo state command for alleged kidnap of a 17-month-old baby.

The command’s deputy police public relations officer, Ifeyinwa Ezeudogu, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri, The Guardian reports.

NAIJ.com notes that Ezeudogu, alleged that the suspects, a pastor and a 23-year-old man, were apprehended based on intelligence information received by the anti-kidnapping unit.

She said that last week the suspect invaded the residence of Vivian Iberie, along Christiana Hospital, Egbu, Owerri North local council and allegedly kidnapped the baby and dispossessed the victim of her Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card.

She said the suspects kept the child at the home of the pastor located at 6, Maduwuba Avenue, Orji, Owerri North local government area, and collected the ransom of N627,000 from the victim.

According to her, the hoodlums later demanded extra N200,000 from the mother of the child before they were arrested by security operatives.

She added that while investigations were ongoing, they were also trailing other suspects who ran away.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Ogun state chapter, arrested the general overseer of the God’s Favour Ministry, Iba, Lagos state, Daniel Onwugbufor, and an accomplice, Israel Animashaun, for alleged car snatching.

Onwugbufor and Animashaun were arrested on February 1 after the police traced a stolen car to the pastor.

The Ogun state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that during interrogation, Animashaun confessed that he and two others snatched the vehicle at gun point in Ajah, Lagos state, and took it to the pastor who helps them sell such stolen items.
