– She paid a heartfelt tribute to her mom in a viral Facebook post
A South African woman, Noxolo Mamvulane Ntaka, graduated from the UK’s Oxford University recently and paid a heartfelt tribute to her mom for making it all possible.
Noxolo shared dozens of photos of herself and her mom at the graduation ceremony on Facebook, NAIJ.com gathered.
In her post, Noxolo said her mom was born in 1949 and was unable to get formal education during the apartheid regime.
Although Noxolo’s mom can’t read or write, she made sure her daughter went to school. Noxolo explained:
“I know for a fact that all that I am is because of her. I know for a fact that all that she has taught me goes beyond what I could have ever learnt in a classroom/university lecture room.”
Noxolo made sure to bring her mom to the UK for the graduation. It was her mom’s first ever international trip. The significance of the occasion wasn’t lost on Noxolo, who said:
“Here was this black womxn from the village of eMdeni in Eastern Cape seated in the Sheldonian Theatre watching her daughter graduate from what is currently known as the best institution in the world.
“Here she was. In all her glory. For many reasons, together with those stated above, this graduation was my mothers’.”
Noxolo concluded her tribute by saying:
“I am a product of my mother’s prayers. Here’s to my mother who has bent over backwards – bearing burdens she was never meant to carry – so that I could walk. I pray that I will be able to lighten the burden for you.”
Noxolo’s tribute touched many social media users. It has racked up over 5,000 reactions and 1,100 shares on Facebook so far. One commenter wrote:
“Congratulations mummy. This is indeed a proud moment for all parents. You did it for all of us to show our parents and the struggle heroes that it was all worth it. To our parents and their prayers…this day was possible.”
