I’m under pressure to dump APC – Governor Yari

– Governor Abdulaziz Yari said he is under pressure to leave his party, APC

– The governor said he, however, not considering leaving his party despite recent crisis

– He also decribed the APC national leaders’ attempt to select governorship candidate for Zamfara as a ‘huge joke’

Zamfara state Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, on Friday, October 12, said that he has been under intense pressure to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with his supporters but he is not considering doing that.

The governor said he just want justice over the controversial primaries and the national leaders decision on the state primaries.

The Nation reports that Yari also described the imposition of a governorship candidate by the national leader of the party as ‘a huge joke’ that he hoped would be rectified.

He said: “I don’t know whether that is a joke or otherwise.

“But for me, if you check my history since 1998, APP, and 2002 when Buhari joined ANPP, and 2015 APC, no time that I shifted from one party to another. That is not in my culture. So, the issue of leaving the party is not true.

“But some other people are sending rumour through the social media. I have seen my picture with the PDP and other parties. Yes, I cannot deny pressure from the people that we should leave APC but what I told them is that what we are looking for is just justice.

“We conducted election and we want to see what the result is going to look. But I think for any body to come under the national secretariat and say he is going to nominate a candidate, I think, it is a very huge joke.”

He said he wondered why the INEC could claim that there were no primaries in the state when the government agencies including the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the electoral umpire was at hand to monitor the process in the state.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, October 12, met behind closed door with Governor Abdulaziz Yari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Yari, who was visiting the presidential villa for the second time since the conduct of the controversial All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Zamfara, was accompanied by Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state.
