My hard-earned mandate was taken from me – Funke Adesiyan says after her APC ticket was given to ‘anointed’ candidate

Only recently, NAIJ.com reported that Funke Adesiyan, a renowned Nollywood actress, won an APC ticket during the primary election to contest for a seat at the Oyo state House of Assembly. However, it would seem she has been replaced by another person who she claims is ‘anointed’.

The actress who took to her Instagram page to inform her fans about this development was clearly unhappy at the fact that she had been replaced as the candidate to represent All Progressive Congress (APC) for Ibadan South East State Constituency 2.

Funke accused APC of swapping her name and replacing with that of an anointed candidate. She wondered why candidates were put through the hassle of obtaining expensive tickets and going though a tedious primary election if the plan was really to force candidates on the masses.

Even before she finally took to announcing her displacement, Funke had earlier written a lengthy appeal to the party asking them not to change the mandate of the people and bring the ballot papers on national TV to count.

“It is disheartening to note that some aspirants used their hard earned money to purchase nomination forms, got screened, cleared and campaigned vigorously yet found their names omitted on Election Day, these forms were bought at exorbitant prices.

Many others contested and yet had their result delayed. Fully knowing that AUTOMATIC tickets have been given to other people…”

As it appears, the beautiful actress had been suspecting a foul play against her at this very point. However, her plea fell on deaf ears and according to her, APC later went on to replace her with someone that did not initially win during the primary election recently held in Oyo state.

“Dear friends,

We have come to the end of a long journey. A very rigorous and eventful one. The people of Ibadan South East 2 have spoken. They spoke loudly and clearly. The journey of the last one year has been halted, and I thank you all for standing by me. For believing in my vision and for throwing your weight behind me in critical moments. I will never take this significant support for granted.

The primary election has come and gone and I have been made to believe and accept the outcome in good fate. While I am not quite happy that my hard-earned mandate was taken from me, as this stands against the principle with which I stand for, I can’t go against the wish of our great party, All Progressives Congress (APC). “I can’t understand why people, who bought forms sold at exorbitant prices, went for primaries and emerged winners only to be told that their names had been swapped for other anointed candidates”. One may be tempted to ask why we had primaries in the first place if the party’s hidden agenda was to impose candidates?

This is one old injustice that has continued to dwarf the progress and entrenchment of internal democracy, one that has denied many people the full blessings of fulfilling their ambition politically. There is no better evidence of this than the brazen act of injustice that forced me to surrender my mandate.

I urge all my supporters not to be wary as this is a phase that will soon pass. Today, I hold in my heart nothing but love for my people as I call on you all to not despair of our present difficulties but to believe, always, in the promise and greatness of our party (APC), Oyo State and Nigeria because nothing is inevitable here.

I implore you all to go all out and vote for the APC in the 2019 general election and ensure that we record a resounding victory.

Thank you and God bless Oyo state.”

Fans are very sad and angry at the turn of event. Some could not understand why she was usurped in such manner without any form of justification. While others consoled her for this, some took to rebuking her for accepting the supposed injustice that has been done against her.

ifeprosper2000: “Good one, with all what thy did u never cover them up, Nd still support the party because it’s the platform u ve chosen, I hope other young politicians will do the same, cos with dis u will keep ur own loyal citizens intact to u..Time will tell…smile..

lincoln602: “You lost my respect, they took ur mandate from u, gave it to an anointed member n u feel ur so called party have if interest at heart, same way someone else will take ur husband and u will be cool with it. And this is the same party u r throwing ur weight behind, .where is equity that u guys preach on a daily basis. Am lost i swear. Fela don talk finish.”
