Police stunned as welder confesses to making N1.2m by posing as an officer

– A welder has confessed to making N1.2 million by posing as a police inspector

– Handcuffs, horsewhip, identity card, cash and four SIM cards were also recovered from the suspect

– The suspect said he took the items from the car of a policeman friend and used them to defraud victims

The Oyo state Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan, has paraded a welder, Adebisi Kayode, who confessed to making N1.2m from impersonating a police inspector.

The suspect is said to have defrauded his victims by telling them that he would help them to purchase auctioned vehicles, Punch reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that while parading Kayode among other suspects, the state commissioner of police, Abiodun Odude, stated: “This impostor, who is a welder, unlawfully obtained money worth over N2m from unsuspecting victims under the pretext of helping them to buy auction vehicles and other property from the office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

“Items recovered from him are handcuffs, horsewhip, identity card, cash and four SIM cards.”

Kayode said he had obtained the items from a friend who was a policeman.

He said: “I was arrested two weeks ago. One of my friends, Corporal Sunday, became drunken one day and he could not drive home. I called his mechanic to drive him home.

“From his car, I took the handcuffs and the horsewhip. I told people that I was a police inspector in order to collect money from them. I have made more than N1.2m before I was arrested.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a 36-year-old former policeman, Charles Abam, was arrested for trying to defraud the children of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The suspect, who was detained at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, impersonated Sen Daisy Danjuma, wife of Gen T.Y. Danjuma (rtd), in order to defraud the president’s children.
