– Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum invite Atiku Abubakar to determine if he has aspirations for their region
– The president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nwodo, says the invitation was necessary, given the nature of the problems facing the country
– Senator Ademola Adeleke accuses the APC and the federal government of plot to rig Osun state gubernatorial election
Leaders of thought and elder statesmen from the four of the six geo-political zones of the country have said they would invite President Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress (APC) for questioning on his plans for Nigeria ahead of the 2019 elections.
They made the disclosure after they grilled a presidential aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, based on his presidential aspirations.
The elder statesmen under the aegis of Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum on Sunday, September 9, invited Atiku to a meeting in Abuja to enable the former vice president explain his plans for Nigeria, if elected president.
Vanguard reports that the group at the meeting also asked the presidential aspirant questions to determine if he had aspirations of their regions.
The meeting which reportedly held at the Asokoro residence of south-south leader, Chief Edwin Clark, had in attendance leaders of Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere; its counterpart in the south-east, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and Middle Belt Forum.
The leaders said other presidential aspirants from all the registered political parties in the country will also be invited for a similar meeting.
Before the closed door session commenced, the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nwodo, disclosed that the Southern and Middle Belt Leadership Forum had begun a programme of inviting presidential aspirants to brief it on their plans and for the forum to make reasoned judgment on who it may endorse, said the invitation was necessary, given the nature of the problems facing the country.
“One of the programmes we decided to embark on is to talk with those who have expressed desire to lead our country to contest for the Presidency of our country,” Nwodo said.
‘’We wanted to rub minds with them, we wanted to know their views about the things that are of importance to us so that by the time we finish the interaction, we will be able to assure ourselves which of them we think will reflect our aspirations and rejig our country and bring it to where our country men and women will like it to be.
“By sheer force of providence, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Wazirin Adamawa has become the first person to be with us.”
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has accused the ruling party, All Progressives Congres (APC) and the federal government of plot to rig election in Osun.
Adeleke, in a statement by his director of media and publicity, Olawale Rasheed, said both the APC and the federal government have taken several steps to plot the election rigging. In the statement, which listed the alleged ‘plots’ and steps taken to ensure the rigging. Adeleke accused the APC of buying Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) for N10,000 from voters.
